Lahore has rolled out a two-week programme of Independence Day celebrations, with a wide range of sporting, cultural and entertainment activities planned across the city until August 23.

The celebrations began on Sunday with a bicycle rally, marking the start of a series of public activities leading up to August 14. A motorbike rally is scheduled to take place in the Defence area on Monday, adding another major attraction to the festivities.

Authorities have also planned citywide illuminations during the celebration period. Various areas of Lahore will be decorated with lights to create a festive atmosphere ahead of Independence Day. A special laser show has also been scheduled at Town Hall as part of the celebrations.

Sports events will form an important part of the programme. A karate tournament is scheduled at the Nishtar Park Sports Complex on August 11, while wrestling and powerlifting competitions will also be organised at the venue.

Another major sporting event is the National Squash Championship, which is scheduled to take place on August 14. The championship will coincide with Pakistan’s Independence Day and is expected to add a sporting dimension to the national celebrations.

One of the biggest public events is planned for August 13 at Liberty Chowk. Authorities will organise a concert followed by a fireworks display, offering citizens an opportunity to celebrate Independence Day through music and entertainment.

The overall programme will continue until August 23, with activities spread across different locations in Lahore.

The celebrations are aimed at providing residents with opportunities to participate in patriotic, recreational and sporting activities while marking Pakistan’s Independence Day.
