The All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association (APPSMA) has urged authorities to allow private schools across Rawalpindi Division to reopen, saying prolonged closures are disrupting students’ education and causing unnecessary academic losses.

The association has called on the commissioner of Rawalpindi Division and deputy commissioners to exercise their powers under Section 12-D of the Punjab Private Educational Institutions Act and permit private schools to resume classes.

APPSMA leaders highlighted that federal schools in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have already resumed academic activities, while schools operating under the Punjab government remain closed. They said the difference has created an unequal situation for students studying in the same cities.

The association also expressed concern over the growing number of holidays in Punjab schools. It said students had attended only around 120 instructional days during the previous academic session and could face further learning losses if the current closure continues.

APPSMA argued that authorities should compensate for missed classroom time by adding teaching days rather than extending school holidays.

The association also questioned the province-wide approach to school closures, stating that weather conditions in Rawalpindi can differ significantly from those in southern Punjab. It urged officials to consider local conditions before making decisions affecting schools.

APPSMA further requested that private schools be reopened before August 14, emphasizing the role of educational institutions in promoting patriotism, discipline and national unity among students.
