In a first for Lahore, Basant celebrations will now take place on the rooftops of 10 government schools across the city, as the local Education Authority takes measures to organize the festival safely. The initiative aims to provide secure and monitored locations for kite flying during the three-day spring festival.

The Lahore Education Authority has officially sent reports to the School Education Department, specifying the designated schools. These include Government High Schools at Bhatti Gate, Delhi Gate, Syed Mitha Bazaar, and Shah Alam Gate, as well as Government Victoria Girls High School, Takia Sadhwan, Kabli Mill, and Chuna Mandi.
To ensure smooth celebrations, school supervisory staff have been instructed to remain on duty 24/7 during the three days of Basant. In addition, the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner will personally visit the schools to review arrangements and ensure compliance with safety protocols.

Authorities have warned that any negligence or lapses in management will result in the responsible heads being held accountable, highlighting the administration’s strict approach to maintaining order and safety during the festival.
This move comes amid growing concerns about safety during Basant celebrations in urban areas, particularly in crowded inner-city neighborhoods. By moving festivities to school rooftops, officials aim to reduce accidents while allowing citizens, especially children and families, to enjoy the festival safely.
