Kerosene gets relief after fuel price hike
The federal government has announced a major cut in kerosene oil prices, offering some relief to consumers after increasing petrol and diesel rates.
According to an official notification, kerosene oil has been reduced by Rs 41.80 per litre. After the latest revision, the new price of kerosene has been fixed at Rs 318.96 per litre.
The decision came alongside a rise in petroleum levy on petrol and diesel. Sources said the government increased the levy on petrol by Rs 13.91 per litre. Following the revision, the petroleum levy on petrol has been set at Rs 117.41 per litre.
A similar increase has also been applied to diesel. The petroleum levy on high-speed diesel was raised by Rs 13.91 per litre, taking the new levy rate to Rs 42.60 per litre.
The latest changes follow the government’s earlier decision to raise prices of major petroleum products. Under that announcement, the price of high-speed diesel was increased by Rs 15 per litre. After the hike, the new diesel price reached Rs 414.58 per litre.
Petrol prices also moved higher. The government raised petrol by Rs 14.92 per litre, pushing the new petrol price to Rs 414.78 per litre.
The contrasting move has drawn attention, as kerosene has become cheaper while petrol and diesel continue to climb. Market observers say the decision may provide limited relief to households that rely on kerosene for daily cooking, heating and other domestic needs.
