Karakoram Express breaks down in extreme heat, passengers face delays and discomfort
Train services on a key railway route were disrupted after the Karakoram Express suffered an engine failure near Lakha Road Station, causing delays for several passenger trains and inconvenience for travelers.
According to railway sources, the Karakoram Express was traveling from Lahore to Karachi when its engine broke down near Lakha Road Station in the Nowshero Feroze district. The unexpected technical fault forced the train to stop, affecting rail traffic on the busy route.
Railway authorities immediately requested a replacement engine from Rohri to restore operations and clear the affected section of the track. Officials said efforts were underway to minimize delays and resume normal train services as quickly as possible.
The engine failure also had a ripple effect on other trains. Karachi Express was reportedly halted at Mehrabpur, while Baba Rehman Train was stopped at Setharja due to congestion caused by the stranded Karakoram Express.
Passengers aboard the affected trains faced significant difficulties as temperatures remained extremely high across the region. Many travelers were seen struggling with the heat while waiting for railway authorities to resolve the issue. Families, elderly passengers and children were among those most affected by the delay.
Railway officials said the Karakoram Express would resume its journey once the replacement engine arrived and was attached to the train. They added that the movement of other delayed trains would also be restored shortly afterward.
The incident has once again highlighted the challenges faced by Pakistan’s railway network during periods of extreme weather, when high temperatures can increase pressure on railway operations and equipment. Passengers have urged authorities to improve maintenance and emergency response measures to avoid similar disruptions in the future.
