Transport fares cut by 4% after fuel price relief, commuters set to benefit
Thousands of public transport users are expected to receive immediate relief after transport authorities approved a 4% reduction in fares following the recent decrease in petroleum product prices.
The decision was taken during a meeting held at the Transport House under the chairmanship of the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Lahore. Representatives of private transport companies and transporters' unions participated in the session and agreed to reduce fares across various public transport routes.
According to officials, the fare reduction comes in response to the government's recent cuts in petrol and diesel prices. Authorities believe the move will ensure that the financial benefits of lower fuel costs are passed directly to passengers.
RTA Secretary Rana Mohsin said all transport operators have been instructed to implement the 4% fare reduction immediately. He added that transport companies and bus operators are legally bound to display updated fare lists at terminals, bus stands and inside vehicles without delay.
The transport department has also warned that strict action will be taken against operators who fail to comply with the new fare structure. Authorities said buses and transport terminals found charging old rates could face sealing and other legal penalties.
Commuters have welcomed the announcement, saying lower fares will help reduce daily travel expenses at a time when many households continue to face economic pressures and rising living costs.
Officials emphasized that monitoring teams will conduct inspections to ensure full implementation of the revised fares. The department hopes the reduction will provide meaningful relief to passengers and improve public confidence that fuel price cuts are being reflected in transportation costs.
