(Web Desk): Heavy rains caused long train delays, leaving passengers stranded for hours and prompting protests over food and other basic facilities.

The flooding forced authorities to stop several trains travelling to different cities.

The affected Manikyala-Sihala section was closed for train movement from 6am to 5pm. Trains coming from Lahore and Karachi were also stopped from using the waterlogged track.

Eight trains held up

Eight trains travelling towards Lahore, Multan, Quetta and Karachi were affected by the disruption. Pakistan Express, Khyber Mail, Rehman Baba and Tezgam were among the trains stopped.

Two Rawalpindi-Lahore Railcars were also held at Chaklala Railway Station. The suspension left many passengers waiting for between six and eight hours.

Services await safe conditions

Experts warned that trains should not operate on the heavily waterlogged track until conditions improve. Railway authorities said services would resume only after the water level falls and the track is declared safe.

The disruption comes as Rawalpindi has experienced heavy rainfall for the fourth consecutive day. Continued rain could cause further problems for railway operations if water remains on the tracks.

The flooding has caused major delays for passengers travelling between Rawalpindi and other cities. The decision to stop trains was necessary because operating on a waterlogged track could create serious safety risks.

Railway services are expected to return once the track is inspected and declared safe. However, continued heavy rain could prolong the disruption and create further travel problems.
