Govt orders faster passport verification for overseas Pakistanis
Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar chaired a meeting of the Committee on Passport Rules to discuss ways to improve the existing verification process.
Officials from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Passport Department and other relevant institutions attended the meeting.
Electronic system planned for document checks
Tarar directed officials to develop an integrated system for the timely verification of travel documents and other important records. He also called for the verification process to be made simpler and faster through an electronic system at the Ministry of Interior.
The proposed system aims to reduce delays caused by lengthy procedures and improve coordination between the institutions involved in document verification. A faster electronic process could also make it easier for overseas Pakistanis to complete official requirements without repeated visits or unnecessary delays.
Govt wants less human interaction
The law minister instructed authorities to reduce human interaction in the verification process as much as possible. The move is intended to make the system more efficient and transparent while reducing unnecessary steps for applicants.
Greater use of electronic verification could allow officials to process documents through a more organised system. The government has also proposed a one-window verification portal to bring different verification requirements together.
One-window portal proposed for overseas Pakistanis
The proposed one-window portal could provide overseas Pakistanis with a simpler way to access verification services. Instead of dealing with different offices or departments separately, applicants could eventually be able to submit or track their requests through a central platform.
However, the exact features and launch date of the proposed portal have not yet been announced. Authorities have been asked to work out the details and present a clear procedure at the next meeting.
Tarar calls overseas Pakistanis a national asset
During the meeting, Tarar described overseas Pakistanis as a valuable national asset. He stressed the need to improve government procedures so that Pakistanis living abroad can access official services more easily.

The minister said existing procedures should be reviewed and improved where necessary. His directions focus on reducing delays and making document-related services more convenient for overseas citizens.
Rules may be amended to improve services
Tarar also instructed relevant authorities to prepare proposals for amendments to existing rules and regulations. The proposed changes are intended to further facilitate overseas Pakistanis.
Officials have been asked to examine the current procedures and identify areas where changes could make verification faster and easier. The proposals will be discussed at the next meeting of the Committee on Passport Rules.
