ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The government cuts petrol and diesel prices again, bringing petrol to Rs327.62 and diesel to Rs380.86 per litre in the latest fuel price update.

Petrol price falls by Rs2.20 per litre

The price of motor spirit, commonly known as petrol, has been reduced by Rs2.20 per litre. The new petrol price stands at Rs327.62 per litre. The reduction comes a day after another cut, when the petrol price was reduced by Rs3.19 per litre.

Before the latest change, petrol was priced at Rs329.82 per litre. The repeated reductions could provide some relief to motorists, particularly those who depend on vehicles for daily travel.

The diesel price has also reduced

The government has also reduced the price of high-speed diesel by Rs1.50 per litre. After the latest adjustment, diesel will be available at Rs380.86 per litre. The diesel price was Rs382.36 per litre before the latest reduction.

Diesel is widely used by public transport, goods carriers, agricultural machinery, and other commercial vehicles. A reduction in diesel prices can therefore help lower transportation costs and, indirectly, ease pressure on the prices of goods and services.

Another fuel price cut follows the earlier reduction

The latest adjustment comes just one day after the government announced another reduction in fuel prices. On Thursday, petrol became cheaper by Rs3.19 per litre, while diesel was reduced by Rs1.50 per litre. At that time, petrol was priced at Rs329.82 per litre, while diesel cost Rs382.36 per litre.

The back-to-back reductions have brought fuel prices down further in the latest rate cycle. However, the overall movement in fuel prices remains important for consumers and businesses because petrol and diesel costs directly affect transportation and operating expenses.

Fuel prices remain higher than earlier levels

Despite the latest reductions, fuel prices have increased significantly since the beginning of the daily fuel rate update system.

According to the available figures, petrol has increased by Rs16.22 per litre during this period. Diesel has recorded an even larger increase of Rs57.53 per litre.

This means the recent reductions have provided some relief but have not completely reversed the earlier increases. For consumers, the overall impact will depend on how fuel prices move in the coming days.

Why fuel prices matter

Changes in petrol and diesel prices have a wide impact on the economy.

Petrol is mainly used by private vehicles, motorcycles, and other small vehicles, while diesel is particularly important for transport, logistics, agriculture, and commercial activities. When fuel prices rise, transportation costs generally increase.

This can put pressure on businesses and may eventually affect the prices of food, goods, and other services. On the other hand, lower fuel prices can reduce transportation expenses and provide some relief to households and businesses.

What the latest reduction means for consumers

The latest cuts are likely to be welcomed by motorists after a period of high fuel prices.

A reduction of Rs2.20 per litre in petrol and Rs1.50 per litre in diesel may appear small, but frequent changes can have a noticeable impact on regular fuel users. For people who use vehicles every day, the lower rates could slightly reduce their monthly fuel expenses.

The impact may also be felt by transport operators and businesses that rely heavily on diesel. The latest cuts, therefore, offer some immediate relief, although the overall fuel price trend will remain important for consumers and businesses in the coming weeks.
