ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The government is considering closing markets earlier than usual as part of efforts to manage the country’s economic and energy challenges.

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik said the proposal is under review and aims to reduce energy consumption during difficult economic conditions.

He explained that if the plan is approved, most markets will close early, while wedding halls and restaurants may be allowed to remain open until 10pm.

The minister also shared that Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will travel abroad next week to hold important meetings with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

During these meetings, the finance minister is expected to explain the economic pressure Pakistan is currently facing. He will also discuss the need for a broader review of the country’s economic framework.

Ali Pervaiz Malik said that friendly countries have supported Pakistan during tough times. He mentioned that the United Arab Emirates had deposited $3.5 billion to help stabilize the economy.

He assured that if any country requests the return of its funds, arrangements are already in place to handle the situation without creating financial instability.

The minister also revealed that after the suspension of gas supply from Qatar, local gas fields quickly increased production. They are now supplying between 400 and 500 MMCFD to meet demand.

Officials believe these combined steps are necessary to manage energy shortages and reduce economic pressure in the coming weeks.
