Govt announces Ashura public holidays across Pakistan
The Government of Pakistan has officially announced two public holidays on June 25 and 26 for the observance of Ashura. The decision has been approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and will be implemented across the country.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the holidays will be observed on 9 and 10 Muharram 1448 Hijri, marking one of the most significant occasions in the Islamic calendar.
The notification states that all federal government offices and institutions will remain closed during the two-day holiday period. Provincial governments have also been directed to make the necessary arrangements in accordance with the announcement.

Authorities have confirmed that special security measures will be implemented nationwide to ensure the peaceful observance of Ashura. Law enforcement agencies will remain on high alert to maintain peace and order during processions and religious gatherings.
Officials said comprehensive plans are being finalised to manage traffic, provide security, and facilitate mourners participating in Ashura-related events across the country.
The government has urged citizens to cooperate with security personnel and follow official instructions to help ensure a safe and peaceful environment during the religious observance.
