Fuel prices jump again in Pakistan as petrol and diesel get costly
The Ministry of Energy has issued a new notification announcing changes in petroleum product prices across Pakistan, bringing another wave of adjustments in fuel rates. According to the official notification, petrol and high-speed diesel prices have been increased, while kerosene oil has seen a slight revision and jet fuel has been made cheaper.
As per the new rates, kerosene oil is now priced at 360 rupees and 76 paisa per litre. Earlier, its price stood at 365 rupees and 21 paisa per litre. The change follows a recent reduction of 63 rupees and 60 paisa per litre in its price during the previous review cycle.
In contrast, petrol has been increased by 6 rupees and 51 paisa per litre, bringing its new price to 399 rupees and 86 paisa per litre. High-speed diesel has also been raised by 19 rupees and 39 paisa per litre, with the new rate set at 399 rupees and 58 paisa per litre. The latest adjustment is expected to impact transportation costs and inflation-sensitive sectors across the country.
However, in a contrasting move, the government has reduced the price of jet fuel used in commercial aviation. The price has been cut by 7 rupees and 76 paisa per litre, bringing it down from 396 rupees and 31 paisa to 388 rupees and 58 paisa per litre.
The continuous fluctuation in fuel prices remains a key concern for consumers, businesses, and transport operators, as changes in petroleum rates directly influence the cost of goods and services in the country. Economists suggest that such adjustments may further pressure already high inflation levels, especially affecting daily commuters and logistics-dependent industries.
The new price structure has come into effect from May 1, 2026, and will remain applicable until the next official review by the government.
