FIA sets up FATF desks nationwide to boost compliance monitoring
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to establish dedicated Financial Action Task Force (FATF) desks across the country to improve coordination and ensure timely implementation of compliance-related tasks.
According to FIA officials, Director General FIA has issued formal directives to all Additional Directors General and Zonal Directors for the immediate setup of these desks at national and regional levels.
The newly established FATF desks will be responsible for collecting detailed information on six key objectives linked to Pakistan’s compliance framework. This data is expected to be compiled and presented during the country’s mutual evaluation review scheduled for the final quarter of the current year.
Officials said that instructions have been issued to all wings and zones to ensure full implementation of FATF-related tasks without delay. Designated focal persons have been assigned to oversee execution, with a strict deadline of seven days to implement the orders and submit progress reports directly to the Director General FIA.
The directives also include a standardized proforma based on seven terms of reference (TORs), which will be used for data collection and reporting across all departments.
Authorities emphasized that all relevant law enforcement agencies, including FIA and other institutions, are required to strictly comply with FATF action points to strengthen Pakistan’s overall anti-money laundering and counter-terror financing framework.
Officials added that the initiative aims to improve institutional coordination, enhance transparency, and ensure that Pakistan meets international compliance standards ahead of the upcoming evaluation cycle.
