The government has decided to release the fifth and sixth installments of the “cheap petrol scheme” during the current month as part of its ongoing fuel subsidy programme for key sectors of the economy.

According to a private television report, the decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. The meeting was attended by Special Assistant Tariq Bajwa, the Petroleum Secretary, chief secretaries of all provinces, and other senior officials.

A statement issued by the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office said that the meeting reviewed in detail the financial assistance being provided to transport operators, motorcycle owners, and farmers under the fuel subsidy scheme.

Officials were briefed that four installments of the scheme have already been successfully disbursed on a weekly basis over the past two months, ensuring continuous support to eligible beneficiaries.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar expressed satisfaction over the progress made so far and directed authorities to continue effective implementation of the subsidy programme without disruption.

The statement further highlighted that issues related to transparency, accountability, and coordination with provincial governments were also discussed during the meeting.
