Peshawar (Web Desk): FIA arrests NADRA officials in Charsadda over illegal CNIC issuance as investigations expand into the alleged network.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested several NADRA officials during a raid at a registration centre in Charsadda over allegations of illegally issuing Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to foreign nationals, including Afghan citizens.

The operation was carried out by the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle Peshawar on the instructions of Deputy Director Rana Shahid Habib. Assistant Director Abdul Qayyum supervised the raid. According to officials, the action was launched after authorities received information about the alleged issuance of CNICs to individuals who were not eligible to obtain Pakistani identity documents.

During the raid, FIA teams detained several officials, including NADRA Assistant Director Waqar Ahmed, along with Ataullah Jan, Ahmed Raza, and Sajjad Ali. Officials said a NADRA employee was taken into custody for allegedly facilitating the issuance of identity cards to non-citizens.

Sources revealed that documents and other important evidence were recovered during the operation. The seized material is expected to help investigators determine the extent of the alleged illegal activity.

The FIA has registered a case against the arrested officials and formally launched an investigation into the matter. According to sources, Waqar Ahmed Khan is already facing scrutiny in several other cases and ongoing inquiries, adding another dimension to the investigation.

An FIA spokesperson said raids are continuing at various locations to arrest additional suspects who may have been involved in facilitating the alleged issuance of CNICs. Officials said the investigation will focus on identifying all individuals connected to the case and determining whether a wider network was involved in obtaining identity documents illegally.
