Diamer (Web Desk): Section 144 imposed in Diamer as GB Elections 2026 preparations complete, with thousands deployed and security tightened.

Authorities have imposed Section 144 in Diamer district as Gilgit-Baltistan prepares for the General Assembly Elections 2026, with extensive security and administrative arrangements put in place to ensure peaceful polling.

Election preparations across 24 constituencies have been completed, and around 7,500 officers and staff members have been assigned election duties. Officials say the large deployment is intended to ensure smooth and transparent voting across the region.

The government has also announced honoraria for election personnel, allocating a total of Rs276 million for officials involved in the electoral process. According to official details, Rs1.8 million has been allocated for 24 returning officers, while assistant returning officers will receive a combined Rs1.2 million.

For polling operations, 1,368 presiding officers have been allocated Rs16.416 million. In addition, 2,450 assistant presiding officers will receive Rs24.5 million, while another Rs24 million has been set aside for 2,450 polling officers. A further Rs208 million has been reserved for lower-grade staff, including LDCs, UDCs, and other support personnel performing election-related duties.

Meanwhile, the district administration has enforced Section 144 in Diamer for 60 days to maintain law and order during the election period. Under the restrictions, the display of weapons, aerial firing, and the use of fireworks have been banned. Authorities have also prohibited the unauthorized use of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to the notification, any drone operation will require prior approval from the District Magistrate. Special security measures have also been introduced to protect sensitive installations across the district.

Law enforcement agencies have been exempted from the restrictions to allow them to perform security duties effectively. Officials warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone violating the orders. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with the administration to help maintain peace and security during the elections.
