QUETTA (Web Desk): A 4.0-magnitude earthquake jolted Rakhni and nearby areas of Balochistan, triggering panic among residents as authorities monitored the situation.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake struck on Wednesday, with its epicentre located 5 kilometres southwest of Rakhni. The tremor originated at a depth of 37 kilometres below the surface.

The earthquake was felt across Rakhni and surrounding areas, sending frightened residents rushing out of their homes, offices, and other buildings into open spaces. Many people were seen reciting prayers as the tremors spread panic across the area.

Despite the panic, there were no immediate reports of deaths, injuries, or damage to homes, buildings, or public infrastructure. Officials said the situation remained under control after the tremors subsided.

The local administration and relevant authorities immediately began monitoring the affected areas to assess the situation and ensure a prompt response if any emergency was reported. Emergency officials urged residents to remain calm and follow safety guidelines in the event of aftershocks. Rescue and emergency teams have also been placed on alert to respond to any unexpected situation.

Pakistan frequently experiences earthquakes because it lies along the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. Balochistan is one of the country’s most earthquake-prone regions and has experienced several destructive earthquakes over the years.

Although Wednesday’s earthquake was moderate in intensity, it once again highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness and public awareness in vulnerable areas. Experts say timely safety measures and effective emergency planning can significantly reduce the impact of future earthquakes.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation, while residents have been advised to stay updated through official announcements and report any emergencies to the relevant authorities immediately.
