Gas supply to the compressed natural gas (CNG) sector has been suspended in Sindh and Balochistan during the holy month of Ramazan, forcing the closure of CNG stations across both provinces.
According to the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), the decision was taken to ensure uninterrupted gas supply for domestic consumers, particularly during the critical hours of Sehr and Iftar when demand rises sharply.
Officials said that the company has prioritized household and commercial consumers so that people observing the fast can prepare meals without facing major gas shortages. However, despite these measures, some areas still experience gas supply interruptions during other parts of the day.
In Karachi, authorities have implemented a daily gas suspension schedule from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. as part of load management efforts aimed at balancing supply and demand during the fasting month.

Meanwhile, the All Pakistan Petroleum and CNG Association has strongly criticized the decision to halt gas supply to the CNG sector. The association said the move has increased difficulties for consumers and transport operators who rely on CNG as a cheaper fuel alternative.
Industry representatives also pointed out that a recent increase of about Rs 55 in petrol and diesel prices has already put additional financial pressure on the public.
They warned that shutting down CNG stations removes an important alternative fuel option for commuters and transporters, which could result in higher transportation costs and further burden consumers during Ramazan.
