According to reports, the program announced by the British Council aims to increase opportunities for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. The initiative also seeks to promote women’s leadership in science and innovation while making the sector more diverse and inclusive.
Under the women in STEM scholarships program, selected students can study a one year master’s degree at leading universities and research institutions in the United Kingdom. So far, partnerships have been established with 43 British universities and around 500 scholarships have been awarded worldwide.
For the academic year 2026–27, each scholarship is worth at least £40,000. The funding covers tuition fees, living expenses, travel costs, visa fees, health coverage and English language support for students.

Globally, 90 scholarships are available for applicants from 30 countries. Out of these, 25 scholarships are reserved for candidates from South Asia and will be offered in collaboration with five universities in the UK.
Country Director of the British Council Pakistan, James Hampson, said the program reflects a strong commitment to helping talented Pakistani women access world class education in the UK and become future leaders in STEM fields.
Meanwhile, Dr Jane Bardsley, Global Head of Enabling Research and Science at the British Council, said the initiative helps reduce barriers for women in STEM careers and encourages greater diversity in scientific research and innovation.
Applications for the women in STEM scholarships can be submitted until the end of April 2026.
