Budget 2026-27 likely on June 5 as IMF talks continue
Pakistan is expected to present the federal budget for fiscal year 2026-27 on June 5 as preparations for major economic meetings enter the final stage.
According to sources, the National Economic Survey 2025-26 is likely to be presented on June 4, a day before the federal budget announcement. The survey will highlight the country’s economic performance during the outgoing fiscal year.
Sources said the meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, may now be held on June 3 instead of May 22.
Meanwhile, the Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC) meeting is also expected to take place on June 1 instead of May 20 as officials continue consultations on development priorities and budget targets.
The government is simultaneously engaged in discussions with the International Monetary Fund over key budget measures and economic reforms ahead of the new fiscal year.
Sources revealed that the IMF has asked provinces to increase revenues by more than Rs400 billion to support fiscal stability and strengthen Pakistan’s economic framework.
However, officials said both sides have already reached understanding on several important budget-related matters, paving the way for smoother approval of the financial plan.
The upcoming budget is expected to focus on revenue generation, economic stability, inflation control, and development spending as Pakistan seeks to maintain progress under the IMF-backed economic program.
