Basant 2027: Basant Portal opens as Punjab prepares for Lahore’s big comeback
Lahore is getting ready for the return of Basant, with Punjab authorities moving quickly to finalise arrangements for the much-awaited three-day celebration.
A meeting chaired by Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi was attended by senior officials from the administration, traffic police, LDA, PHA and WASA. Officials reviewed arrangements for the festival, scheduled for March 12 to 14.
Basant Portal opens for registration
A major part of the preparations is the Basant Portal, which allows kite manufacturers to complete the required registration process online.
Those seeking registration can visit the official Basant Portal at basant.punjab.gov.pk: Basant Portal.
Recent reports said registration for kite manufacturers opened on September 5. Manufacturers will need the required approval before producing kites and kite-flying string.
Kite rules take centre stage
The home secretary directed officials to ensure that permission is obtained for manufacturing kites and string. He also instructed the Lahore deputy commissioner to meet kite flyers and discuss arrangements for the festival.
The deputy commissioner has further been asked to prepare a comprehensive Basant plan for Lahore.
Safety remains the priority
The revival of Basant is expected to bring excitement across Lahore, but authorities are putting safety and strict regulation at the centre of preparations.
The government aims to revive the traditional festival while preventing the use of dangerous kite materials and ensuring that celebrations remain safe for citizens.
