LAHORE (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the Apna Khet Apna Rozgar scheme, giving 30,000 landless families farming rights over government land for the next 20 years.

Under the Apna Khet Apna Rozgar scheme, each successful family will receive cultivable government land on a symbolic lease of just Rs100 per year.

The initiative aims to help poor families become financially independent through farming instead of relying on financial assistance.

The Punjab government has allocated 121,000 acres of cultivable land to 30,000 landless families through the Apna Khet Apna Rozgar scheme. Along with land rights, successful applicants will also receive financial support for farming.

For the first time, the government will provide Rs50,000 per acre to help families start cultivation. During the balloting ceremony, Maryam Nawaz personally spoke with Abdul Sattar from Faisalabad, the first successful applicant selected through the computerized draw.

Congratulating him, the chief minister said he would receive 4 acres of farmland for the next 20 years by paying only Rs100 annually.

She also told him that the government would provide around Rs59,000 per acre along with Rs200,000 to prepare the land for cultivation.

Maryam Nawaz encouraged the successful applicant to work hard, earn an income and support his family through farming. She said the goal of the Apna Khet Apna Rozgar scheme is to help deserving families stand on their own feet with dignity instead of depending on others.

The chief minister announced that successful applicants will soon receive their lease certificates. She added that more cultivable government land will be identified and distributed only among families that do not already own agricultural land.

According to Maryam Nawaz, the programme is designed for the poorest section of society. She believes it will improve financial independence, increase agricultural production and restore self-respect among deserving families.

She also said Punjab has become the first province in Pakistan to make ordinary citizens stakeholders in government-owned agricultural land through such an initiative.
