Punjab Police has prepared a proposal to charge fees for providing security at private programs, official sources said. Under the plan, police security will no longer be offered free of cost for such events.
The proposal has been sent to the Inspector General of Punjab for approval. If cleared, a new system will be introduced to formally collect security fees from event organizers.
In 2025, Lahore Police provided security for more than 14,000 events. These included private functions, cultural programs and protest gatherings, putting heavy pressure on police manpower and resources.

The proposed system will apply to wedding halls, concerts, protest rallies and similar events. Officials say the money collected will be used to improve police welfare, training and facilities.
Punjab Police believes the move will make the security system more efficient and financially sustainable. Authorities say it will also help ensure better planning and deployment of police personnel.
Once the Punjab government approves the proposal, a formal notification will be issued to enforce the new policy across the province.
