Iman Mazari’s mother-in-law has revealed that Iman, who is expecting a child, is reportedly being subjected to harsh and inhumane treatment by police. Speaking to senior journalist Matiullah Jan, she said that Iman has been denied food and water, and described the way she was forcibly handled during her arrest as putting two lives at risk. She added that both Iman and her husband, Hadi Ali Chatha, are being treated cruelly, raising serious concerns for the safety of their unborn child.
According to reports, Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha were arrested two days ago by Islamabad police near Serena Chowk while they were en route from the Islamabad High Court to the District Court. Their arrests followed the Islamabad District & Sessions Court judge Tahir Abbas Supra rejecting their pre-arrest bail applications.
The couple had earlier been sentenced to 17 years in prison each over a controversial tweet case. Authorities allege that Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha were promoting agendas of banned organizations, including the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), and distributing material against state institutions.
