(Web Desk): Punjab government raises stamp paper fees across legal and administrative documents, effective January 26, 2026, with stricter verification rules to enhance transparency.

The Punjab government has significantly increased stamp paper fees across multiple categories, effective January 26, 2026, marking a major revision in legal and administrative costs for residents. The minimum e-stamp fee has been raised to Rs. 300, up from Rs. 100, while fees for other documents have surged, reaching several thousand rupees.

Key changes include divorce-related documents now costing Rs. 1,000 (previously Rs. 100), domicile certificates Rs. 500 (previously Rs. 100), property sale agreements Rs. 3,000 (previously Rs. 1,200), non-property agreements Rs. 500 (previously Rs. 100), power of attorney Rs. 1,800 (previously Rs. 1,500), and new utility connections Rs. 1,000 (previously Rs. 100).

Authorities have also made it mandatory for applicants to register a SIM card in their own name to obtain e-stamp papers. Officials say this move aims to ensure secure, transparent, and verifiable processing of stamp papers. Citizens can access detailed rates and guidelines on the Punjab Land Records Authority’s official e-stamping portal.

The fee hike is expected to increase the cost of legal and administrative services for residents, but it also aims to reduce fraud, streamline verification, and strengthen accountability. Analysts say the measure could improve the integrity of property transactions, legal documentation, and administrative approvals across the province.

The government has urged citizens to follow the new rules strictly to avoid delays in document processing. Experts also recommend checking updated rates online before applying for any e-stamp papers to ensure compliance with the new regulations.
