The Punjab government has issued a strict 30-day ban on the production, storage, sale, and flying of kites featuring images of political figures or party symbols, aiming to prevent disturbances during the upcoming Basant 2026 festival. Officials warned that such kites could be misused by mischief-makers to create unrest and spoil the festive spirit.
According to authorities, the ban applies to all individuals, businesses, and kite manufacturers. Anyone found producing, storing, buying, selling, or flying kites displaying political images will face strict legal action under the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2025. Officials emphasized that the measure is purely preventive and intended to ensure safety, law, and order during the three-day Basant celebrations.
The move comes as a precaution against potential attempts by disruptive elements to exploit the festival for political provocation. DIG Operations Faisal Kamran stated that the government is committed to maintaining a peaceful and family-friendly atmosphere during Basant. “Kites are meant to bring joy, not conflict. Any political or provocative kite activity will not be tolerated,” he said.

In addition to the political kite ban, the Punjab government has already announced free public transport, distribution of protective wires for motorcyclists, and strict enforcement against illegal kite flying and aerial firing during Basant. Citizens are encouraged to enjoy the festival responsibly and report any suspicious activity.
With this innovative approach, Punjab aims to combine fun with safety, ensuring that Basant remains a celebration of colors, culture, and community — free from political tensions and hazards
