(Web Desk): Punjab government extends housing program to joint families, setting target of 160,000 homes by June 2026 with interest-free loans and land allocation.

The Punjab government has announced a major expansion of its flagship housing program “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” to include joint families, aiming to construct 160,000 homes across the province by June 2026.

Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, unveiled the initiative, calling it a revolutionary package designed to preserve the centuries-old joint family system while promoting social harmony and development. Under the program, joint families will receive interest-free loans in easy installments to expand or build their homes.

For citizens without land, the government will allocate plots and provide interest-free loans to construct houses under the “Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar” scheme. So far, 1,534 plots have been approved, with the first phase including 194 plots in Jhelum, 129 in Kasur, 84 in Faisalabad, and 59 in Lodhran, which will be distributed via lottery. The Chief Minister has instructed authorities to expedite the lottery process.
