KARACHI (Web Desk): Sindh government has announced two Christmas holidays for the Christian community, extending celebrations beyond December 25.

The Sindh government has officially declared an additional public holiday for the Christian community on the occasion of Christmas. A notification to this effect has been issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department.

According to the notification, Christians in Sindh will observe a public holiday not only on December 25 for Christmas but also on December 26, 2025. The extra holiday has been announced exclusively for the Christian community.

The notification states that all government, autonomous and semi autonomous institutions, corporations and local councils operating under the Sindh government will remain closed on December 26. However, employees providing essential services will not be able to avail this holiday.

Separately, the Sindh government has also issued a notification declaring a general holiday on December 25 on the occasion of Quaid e Azam Day and Christmas. This holiday will apply to all government and semi government offices, as well as Sindh government run corporations and local councils.

It is worth noting that the federal government has already announced December 25 as a public holiday for Quaid e Azam Day and December 26 as a post Christmas holiday for Christian employees, with official notifications already issued.

In a statement from the Ministry of Interior, it was said that, like every year, a public holiday will be observed on December 25 to mark the birth anniversary of Pakistan’s founder Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The statement further said that in view of the Christian religious festival Christmas, Christian employees in all government and semi government offices will observe a holiday on December 26 so they can celebrate the occasion with their families.

The decision reflects inclusivity and respect for minorities. Extra leave allows families more time together. It also aligns Sindh’s move with the federal policy. The step may strengthen trust between the government and the Christian community.
