Mohsin Naqvi expected to meet senior US officials in Washington next week
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is attending the 2026 United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) in New York, where global leaders in policing and internal security are meeting to discuss international peace, security cooperation and strategies to combat transnational crime.
The conference is focused on redefining the role of UN policing, with delegates exploring ways to make peacekeeping missions more flexible, efficient and better equipped to meet evolving security challenges.
During the visit, Naqvi is expected to hold separate meetings with the UN Secretary-General and several foreign ministers and security officials participating in the summit.

Sources also said the Pakistani minister is likely to meet New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani while in the United States.
The visit coincides with trips by several other senior Pakistani officials, including Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, Rana Mashhood, and Khurram Dastgir, who are also in the US for official engagements.
Following the conclusion of the summit, Naqvi is expected to travel to Washington, where he is scheduled to hold discussions with senior US officials.
Sources indicated that Tariq Fatemi may join the delegation during those meetings. The planned consultations come as Islamabad continues playing a diplomatic role in encouraging dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
Naqvi has remained actively engaged in these efforts, including through recent meetings in Saudi Arabia, aimed at sustaining momentum for renewed negotiations.
Diplomatic sources said Islamabad has now emerged as the leading candidate to host the next round of technical discussions between the United States and Iran, tentatively scheduled for July 11.
If those talks make progress, senior negotiators from both countries are expected to meet in Doha later in July for another round of direct negotiations.
