LAHORE (Web Desk): Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) announces Karachi Olympics 2026 as a citywide sports event aimed at engaging youth and reviving Karachi’s image as a sports hub.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) said the “Karachi Olympics 2026” will be held from January 21 to February 1 this year, bringing sports competitions to union council and town levels across the city.

Speaking at a news conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq, JI Karachi chief Monem Zafar Khan said the initiative is designed to highlight Karachi as a sports city and provide healthy activities for young people.

He said the Olympics will include cricket, football, table tennis, cycling, tug of war, and several other sports, offering wide participation opportunities.

Registration for the Karachi Olympics will begin on January 8. It will be open daily from 6 pm to 11 pm at selected centers, while online registration will be available 24 hours a day.

Monem Zafar Khan said the main goal is to give youth a positive platform, promote sportsmanship, and bring hidden talent into the spotlight.

“Providing a positive platform, highlighting hidden talent and promoting sportsman spirit among youth is our objective,” he said, calling the event a major step for youth engagement.

He added that if Jamaat-e-Islami can organize such a large sports event while sitting in the opposition, the government should also be able to launch similar initiatives.

The JI leader also strongly criticized the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan, accusing it of damaging Karachi and “playing on both sides of the wicket” through political pressure.
