ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The government has decided to challenge the Supreme Court order of Imran Khan transfer to Shifa international hospital for medical treatment.

Government seeks review of hospital order

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said the government had reviewed the court’s decision and would approach the Supreme Court with a government review petition.

The government has raised questions about the wider impact of the order, particularly whether similar directions would apply to other prisoners with health problems.

The latest development comes after the Supreme Court ordered the Imran Khan transfer to Shifa hospital for medical treatment.

Questions over treatment of other prisoners

The law minister said many prisoners in jails also suffer from different medical conditions.

He noted that convicted prisoners are provided treatment at government hospitals when required. He questioned whether the Supreme Court’s directions would create similar requirements for other prisoners.

The government therefore wants the court to reconsider the matter through a government review petition.

The move could bring another legal turn in the case as authorities seek clarification about the scope of the court’s decision.

Supreme Court’s earlier decision

The Supreme Court had issued a written order after hearing the case concerning Imran Khan health and his meetings with family members.

The court directed that he be shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for treatment. It also ordered that he should be allowed to meet his family and lawyer once a week.

The decision followed concerns raised in court about his medical condition and the information contained in his Imran Khan medical report.

The court had also sought detailed medical information to assess his condition properly.

Restrictions on health information

The Supreme Court further directed that information about Imran Khan health should not be broadcast through the media.

The court said his medical condition should not be turned into a political issue. It also directed that his personal doctor, Dr Faisal, and his sister, Dr Uzma, should be involved in his medical care arrangements.

The government’s challenge could now determine how the order will be implemented.

The Imran Khan medical report and his treatment arrangements are expected to remain important parts of the proceedings.

What happens next?

The Supreme Court will consider the government’s Imran Khan review petition and decide whether its earlier directions require any changes or clarification.

The case has attracted attention because the court’s decision concerns both medical treatment and access to family members.
