Why Aleema Khan detained in Lahore

Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, was detained by police under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order, 1960 (3MPO), according to party sources. PTI sources said she was taken into custody after leaving her home on Upper Mall in Lahore.

The sources said Aleema was heading to a gym when police detained her. Her vehicle was later parked at Lytton Road police station, while she was reportedly shifted to Kot Lakhpat jail.

Sister confirms custody details

Noreen Niazi, another sister of Imran Khan, told Geo News that Aleema was taken into custody while leaving her home. She said she had received information that Aleema was being taken to Kot Lakhpat jail.

"I do not know why they are so worried that they are arresting women as well," Noreen said. She also said PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan contacted her to ask about the situation.

PTI reacts to Aleema Khan arrest

Noreen said the family was not frightened by the measures and would continue its efforts for Imran Khan. Meanwhile, the PTI chief said Noreen had informed him by phone about Aleema’s arrest.

He said arresting or detaining Aleema would increase tension and promote confrontation. "We strongly condemn Aleema Khan's arrest; this is the first step towards worsening the situation," he said.

Gohar calls for peaceful political struggle

Barrister Gohar said the party had repeatedly stated that its march would remain peaceful and political. "We have always made it clear that our march will be peaceful and political," he said, adding that the party would pursue its constitutional and political demands through peaceful struggle.

"We do not want any kind of confrontation or violence," he said. He called for such measures to be stopped immediately and demanded Aleema’s release.

The PTI chairman said the party would announce its strategy in response to the measures soon. The detention and the party’s reaction come amid continuing political tensions surrounding PTI activities.

Aleema Khan’s detention has added another point of tension between PTI and authorities. Police and party sources have given details about the detention, while further developments are expected as the matter continues.
