ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday adjourned indefinitely the hearing on the intra-court appeal of the federal government against its verdict that annulled the amendments to the law of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan appeared before the Supreme Court (SC) via a video link, but he did not get a chance to speak as a petitioner in the case.

The hearing started at 11:30 am. A five-member larger bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, conducted the hearing.

Justice Aminuddin, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Athar Minallah, and Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi were part of the larger SC bench.

The judgment in the NAB amendments case was issued on September 15, 2023, by ex-CJP Umar Ata Bandial before he resigned from his post.

In the majority judgment, the Supreme Court annulled the NAB amendments regarding the definition of Benami, assets beyond means, and burden of proof on the prosecution.

The apex court restored the cases of all the public office holders and ordered sending them to accountability courts.

It also ordered the NAB to send all the records to the courts concerned within seven days.

A three-member SC bench delivered the verdict. Ex-CJP Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan gave the majority judgment while the third judge, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, disagreed with the majority verdict.
