SARGODHA (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the electric bus service in Sargodha, making the city part of a modern and eco-friendly transport revolution.

She personally traveled from Circuit House bus stop to the ceremony in one of the new buses, where citizens welcomed her warmly, showering flower petals. Youth carried posters of Maryam Nawaz and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif during the event.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan briefed the CM, announcing that electric bus service will be expanded to every tehsil to provide clean and modern public transport across Punjab.

In Sargodha, 33 electric buses will run on four routes including Bhalwal, Sillanwali, Kot Momin and Tehsil Sahiwal. These buses are expected to serve more than 25,000 passengers every single day.

The fare for the electric bus has been set at only Rs20. Each bus is equipped with modern facilities such as WiFi, mobile charging ports, CCTV cameras and a separate compartment for women. Charging stations have also been built in Sargodha for these buses.

During her speech, Maryam Nawaz announced that travel will be free for women, elderly citizens, students and differently-abled persons. She regretted that Sargodha never had a proper government transport system before, forcing women to travel on unsafe and broken buses.

She added that the electric bus service now offers women a safe, respectable and comfortable ride. The buses also include free WiFi, charging ports and ramps for special persons.

Highlighting affordability, she said the fare from Bhera to Sargodha used to be Rs200 but will now cost only Rs20. She stressed that development should not remain limited to big cities, and this time Sargodha has received electric buses even before Lahore and Rawalpindi.

Maryam Nawaz further said that unlike the past when progress began and ended in big cities, now it will start from smaller towns and spread across the province.

This initiative is more than just a transport upgrade – it is a major relief for commuters. Affordable fares, free travel for women and students, and modern facilities make the electric buses a symbol of change. By launching this service in Sargodha before bigger cities, Maryam Nawaz has sent a strong message that development will now reach smaller towns first.
