
The three-member bench consisting of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Aminuddin Khan decided in favor of the pensioners, with Justice Ayesha Malik having made a dissenting note. The ruling was made after a prolonged hearing on more than 175 appeals and petitions made by the former employees.
As per the court s order, PTCL has been ordered to come up with a detailed pension payment plan within 90 days and start making payments accordingly. The court made clear that the organization is under an obligation to pay pensions and cannot avoid this.

"Pension payments have to be made openly, impartially, and without prejudice," the court said, ensuring justice for the affected pensioners after decades of legal combat.
The Supreme Court also added that any adjustments in the amount of pensions would be done as per the federal government s rules and regulations, to bring parity and equity to all deserving retirees.
But the court also made it clear that the beneficiaries of the Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) are not entitled to pension benefits.
