After a noticeable decrease in petroleum prices, the Punjab Transport Department has decided to cut bus and rail fares across the province by 5%. This decision aims to reduce travel costs for daily passengers and bring transparency to fare pricing at all terminals.
The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has directed all bus stands to update and clearly display the new fare lists for passengers immediately.

The recent drop of Rs12.84 per liter in diesel prices on Friday night led to this adjustment in transport fares. As a result, fares for different cities have been lowered between Rs50 and Rs300. For instance, the fare from Lahore to Sargodha has been reduced by Rs50, now costing Rs1,060.
Lahore to Islamabad fare is down by Rs100 to Rs1,950. The fare from Lahore to Peshawar has been cut by Rs120, now priced at Rs2,380. Travelers going from Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan will now pay Rs2,810, a decrease of Rs140.
The Lahore to Hyderabad route now costs Rs5,800 after a Rs300 cut. Meanwhile, the train fare from Lahore to Karachi has been reduced by Rs320, now set at Rs6,040.
Officials from the RTA are actively visiting transport terminals to ensure the new pricing is enforced correctly. According to the secretary of the authority, teams are in regular contact with transporters to make sure all new fares are applied from today.
This fare reduction is a welcome relief for commuters across Punjab, especially amid rising inflation and cost-of-living concerns.
