(Web Desk): The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has announced electricity schedule, announcing 8-hour daily shutdown.

As per LESCO announced load shedding schedule, the company will cut electricity for six to eight hours daily starting October15.

LESCO has announced that power supply will remain suspended between 7:00 AM and 2:00 PM in selected areas of Lahore.

According to reports, the LESCO is currently struggling with a power demand of 4,200 MW, while the available supply stands at only 3,700 MW. This shortfall of 500 MW has resulted in two hours of load shedding in urban areas and up to eight hours in rural regions.

Adding to this several power plants are facing severe fuel shortages, including oil, gas, and coal, another reason of increasing load shedding in Lahore.

A report issued yesterday highlighted that the nationwide electricity shortfall had reached 5,500 megawatts (MW), causing outages of up to six hours in urban centers and eight hours in rural areas.

According to the Power Division, the country’s total electricity generation currently stands at 15,500 MW, while the demand has surged to 21,000 MW, creating a significant gap of 5,500 MW.

Officials further explained that the ongoing power crisis stems from delays in purchasing furnace oil and RLNG. Due to the fuel procurement issues, many power generation companies are operating well below their capacity, exacerbating the shortage.

However, officials expressed hope that the situation would stabilize soon once fuel supplies improve, and load shedding schedule will come to normal.
