E-Taxi services to launch in Punjab, here are details

(Web Desk): Punjab is set to introduce its very first electric taxi services, to make the province's public transport more eco-friendly.

E-taxi services plan was discussed during a steering committee meeting, which was presided over by Provincial Transport Minister and Mass Transit, Bilal Akbar Khan.

The session was joined by representatives from different departments, such as the Transport Department, PECA, NESPAK, Excise and Taxation, and Bank of Punjab. All participants were given an in-depth briefing on the project, which centered on the category of electric cars that were being considered, their prices, and technical details.

Inter-ministerial talks were also conducted on the installation of charging stations and other infrastructure required for the success of the e-taxi scheme. Different proposals were considered to further enhance the scheme and make it sustainable.

In the initial phase, 1,100 electric cars will be available on easy installments free of interest for the e-taxi fleet. In Bilal Akbar Khan s words, the project will generate jobs while giving citizens cheap and environmentally friendly modes of transport.

The minister emphasized that the e-taxi plan has easy eligibility requirements to make more people participate. He said the plan will be launched officially with advertisements in the next few weeks.

"This project is the start of the era of modern public transport in Punjab," the transport minister said, noting that it will also help spread eco-friendly transport in the province.
