ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) Former prime minister Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for the suspension of her sentence in the Iddat case.

Bushra Bibi filed the petition through her lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar, seeking suspension of sentence and her release on bail in the case.

The petition stated the prosecution presented weak evidence full of contradictions in the court, on the basis of which the conviction could not have been awarded. It added the sentence awarded by the trial court cannot be sustained.

The petition further stated Bushra Bibi has been kept in the worst conditions in the jail for political revenge.

“In order to fulfil the requirements of justice, the petition for the suspension of Bushra Bibi’s sentence must be decided quickly,” it demanded.

“The petition for the suspension of Bushra Bibi’s sentence, which is pending in the Sessions Court, should also be heard by the court,” it added.

It is to be noted here that on November 25, Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband Khawar Maneka filed a case of illicit affairs and Nikah during Iddat against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the court of a senior civil judge Qudratullah in Islamabad.

On December 11, 2023, the Islamabad court declared the case—commonly known as the Iddat case — admissible. On February 23, 2024, PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to seven years in prison in the Iddat case.
