(Web Desk): Lahore City Traffic Police has announced a comprehensive traffic advisory for 9th and 10th Muharram, ensuring smooth flow of traffic and maximum safety for citizens and mourners participating in religious processions across the city.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Dr. Athar Waheed, stated that over 600 majalis (religious gatherings) and 117 processions are scheduled to take place on both days, including five major Zuljinnah processions emerging from various key areas of the city.

To manage these events, over 2,200 traffic wardens and 400+ inspectors will be deployed across Lahore. The operation will be supervised by two Zonal SSPs, four Divisional SPs, and 21 DSPs who will oversee the movement and security of all majalis and processions.

The main 9th Muharram procession will begin from Pandu Street, proceed to Khaima-e-Sadaat, and return to conclude at Pandu Street.

A second major procession will start from Qasr-e-Batool in Shadman.

Additional Zuljinnah processions will also emerge from Nabi Pura Shian, Lal Pul, Model Town, Chuhang, and Thokar Niaz Baig.

The traffic police have thoroughly inspected all procession routes, parking areas, and diversion points, with officers deployed accordingly. Emergency vehicles will be given uninterrupted passage in case of any untoward incident.

Additionally Lahore traffic police have warned that severe action would be taken against anyone posting sectarian, hateful, or provocative content on social media during Muharram.

The Punjab Home Department also stated that it has reported 932 social media accounts to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for sharing provocative content.

In a post on X, the department added, “Our Cyber Patrolling and Quick Response Cell operates around the clock, actively monitoring and swiftly responding to content promoting sectarianism, incitement, and religious hatred.”

To keep the public updated, Lahore Traffic Police will provide real-time traffic updates through the Rasta app, social media channels, and Rasta FM. Citizens are also encouraged to reach out to the helpline 15 for any assistance or guidance during these days.

The CTO also emphasized maintaining public peace and coordination with allied departments. Wardens have been instructed to remain vigilant, particularly in identifying unattended belongings or suspicious individuals.

Additionally Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the vital contribution of religious scholars in maintaining peace during Muharram.

"Words cannot fully express our gratitude to the ulema and leaders of all sects for their role during Muharram — everyone has an important part to play," Naqvi said during a meeting with scholars from diverse religious backgrounds in Islamabad.
