
Chaired by the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, the meeting focused on critical issues like insurance costs, battery theft risks, and advanced anti-theft security measures. Representatives from insurance and manufacturing sectors actively participated and shared new insights.
EV manufacturers presented their latest safety enhancements, showcasing advanced tracking systems, modern locking mechanisms, and more secure battery setups. They assured that lithium-ion batteries are not only the safest choice for Pakistani weather but also highly eco-friendly, supporting the country’s green ambitions.
It was also highlighted that new technologies have greatly minimized the risk of battery theft, a major concern for potential EV buyers. These improvements are expected to boost confidence among consumers considering the shift to electric vehicles.
Haroon Akhtar Khan directed insurance companies to submit separate and detailed insurance rate proposals for motorcycles, rickshaws, and cars by Tuesday. He stressed the need for affordable rates in the public interest, assuring that the most competitive and beneficial options would be approved.

He reiterated that, under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision, the government remains dedicated to expanding eco-friendly transport through the National Electric Vehicle Policy. “Electric vehicles will play a significant role in reducing environmental pollution in Pakistan,” the SAPM stated.
