Security forces kill 15 in foiled Pak-Afghan border infiltration
The military’s media wing said the attempted infiltration was detected during the night of August 31 and September 1, 2026.
The group was reportedly attempting to cross into Pakistan from Afghanistan opposite North Waziristan District. Security forces detected their movement and responded to stop the attempted entry.
According to ISPR, troops engaged the group after detecting the movement. The military said the operation was carried out with patience and precision.
The engagement continued for around 36 hours. At the end of the operation, 15 members of the group were reported killed.
Weapons recovered after border operation
Following the engagement, security personnel launched a sanitisation operation in the area. The military said a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the killed militants.
According to ISPR, the recovery of the weapons provides further evidence of what it described as plans to create instability and disrupt peace in Pakistan.
The military also said security personnel were continuing to search the area. The ongoing operation is aimed at locating and dealing with any other militants who may still be present.
The development comes amid continued security concerns along Pakistan’s western border. Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns about militant activity originating from Afghan territory.
Pakistan raises concerns over Afghan border security
ISPR said the latest incident reinforced Pakistan’s position that the Afghan Taliban authorities have failed to prevent the use of Afghan soil for cross-border terrorism.
The military also criticised what it described as weaknesses in border management. It said Afghan authorities had not effectively fulfilled their international obligations regarding preventing militant activity from their territory.
“The Afghan Taliban Regime has consistently failed to ensure effective border management and honor its international obligations”, the statement noted.
Pakistan has previously called for stronger action against militant groups operating from areas close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Islamabad maintains that improved border controls are necessary to prevent militants from crossing into Pakistan.

Security forces pledge continued counterterrorism action
The military said Pakistani security forces remained committed to protecting the country’s borders and dealing with terrorism.
“The Security Forces of Pakistan remain resolute and unwavering in their commitment to defend the nation’s frontiers,” the ISPR said.
The sanitisation operation was continuing after the main engagement. Security forces were searching the surrounding area to ensure that no other militants involved in the attempted infiltration remained there.
The operation highlights the continuing importance of security along the mountainous border region. North Waziristan has remained a key area in Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts because of its difficult terrain and proximity to Afghanistan.
‘Azm e Istehkam’ campaign continues
ISPR said counterterrorism operations would continue under the national strategy of “Azm e Istehkam”. The campaign was approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.
The military said the objective is to eliminate the threat posed by what it describes as foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism.
The latest operation is therefore part of a wider security campaign rather than an isolated border incident. Authorities are expected to maintain surveillance and operations in sensitive areas along the western frontier.
