(Web Desk): The Mir Raza Ali killing case has taken a new turn as the Sindh government has decided to form a judicial commission headed by High Court judges.

Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar said the decision was taken after a meeting with Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. He said the commission would investigate the circumstances surrounding the young businessman’s death.

New team to investigate case

Speaking on Geo News programme ‘Naya Pakistan’, Lanjar said the government had decided to involve High Court judges in the investigation. "We will have this case investigated by high court judges," he said.

Ali’s body was found in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area last month, one day after he went missing on July 28. Following the exhumation of his body, authorities also changed the investigation team.

DIG Amir Farooqi has been appointed as the new head of the investigation team. Lanjar said the family had also been told that any police officer recommended by them could be included in the investigation.

"The government stands with the people — it is the government's duty to deliver justice," Lanjar said. He added that the government shared the grief of Mir Raza’s family.

Five-member committee formed

Lanjar said there was currently no evidence indicating that a high-profile personality was behind the killing. He also responded to concerns raised by police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed about the post-mortem examination.

Lanjar said Dr Samia should have approached the government if she believed the post-mortem had not been conducted correctly. "The government was facing criticism because Dr Samia had failed to inform her superiors about the shortcomings," he added.

A five-member committee was formed after Ali’s body was exhumed for another examination. DIG Amir Farooqi is heading the committee, while SSP Rapid Response Force Ali Raza has been appointed secretary.

The committee also includes SP Investigation Korangi Qais Khan, Central SP Investigation Anum Tajammul and an officer from the Special Investigation Unit, Zaman Town. The committee was created on the instructions of Sindh IGP Javed Alam Odho after the previous investigation committee was dissolved.

Post-mortem reveals multiple injuries

Ali’s body was exhumed for a post-mortem examination and later reburied at a graveyard near Tariq Road. The initial medical report reportedly addressed all 14 points raised by police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed during the examination.

According to sources, the report found that Ali had suffered a gunshot wound from the rear. It also reported several signs of violence, including fractured ribs and multiple injuries to his head and face.

The report also mentioned black marks on his body, injuries to his feet and blood stains on tissues in the lower part of his body. A fracture and an injury measuring about 12 centimetres were also found on his right thigh.

Doctors also reported a deep injury and fracture around the jaw. Injuries were found on the nasal bone and other parts of the face, while the chest area showed several serious injuries, including a fracture of the sixth rib.

The decision to form a judicial commission adds another layer of oversight to the Mir Raza Ali killing investigation. The move comes after the exhumation and fresh medical examination raised further questions about the circumstances of his death.

The new investigation team will now examine police evidence, medical findings and other information. The involvement of High Court judges could bring greater public attention to the case and may help address concerns raised by the family.
