A district court in Dadu has acquitted all eight accused in the high-profile murder case involving the family of Umme Rubab Chandio, including two members of the Pakistan Peoples Party.
The case was related to the killing of Rubab’s father Mukhtiar Chandio, her grandfather Raees Karamullah Chandio, and her uncle Kamil Chandio. They were shot dead in broad daylight in Ahmed Colony of Mehar Taluka on January 17, 2018.

The trial continued for more than eight years, with a total of 392 hearings. The verdict was announced by Judge Hussain Kalor, who stated that there was not enough evidence to prove the charges against the accused, including Sardar Ahmed Khan Chandio and Burhan Khan Chandio, leading to their release.
Before the verdict, strict security arrangements were put in place. Police deployed a large number of personnel, including officers and senior officials, and roads around the court were closed to maintain order.
Reacting to the decision, Rubab remained determined and said, “My spirits are high. The world is shocked that the feudal lords in Sindh are granted a licence to commit murder. I will challenge the verdict in the high court.”
Her lawyer confirmed that an appeal will be filed in the Sindh High Court against the acquittal.
Meanwhile, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman strongly criticised the decision, saying, "The court's decision has once again proven that the justice system is subservient to the powerful feudal lords."
“I salute the daughter of the nation, Umme Rubab Chandio, for her relentless fight for justice,” he added, while also questioning political leadership over the issue.

He further asked, “Isn’t Umme Rubab Chandio a daughter of Sindh?” and raised concerns about whether powerful figures are being protected.
He urged political parties and human rights organisations to support Rubab in her continued legal battle.
