Punjab allows under-18 youth to ride bikes legally
In a major move, the Punjab government has decided to introduce a special driving permit for teenagers between the ages of 16 and 18. The new permit will allow eligible youngsters to ride motorcycles and scooties under specific conditions.
According to the Traffic Police, permit holders will only be allowed to drive motorcycles up to 125cc or use a scooty. They will not be permitted to drive cars or heavier vehicles.
Officials said the annual fee for the Juvenile Driving Permit has been set at Rs500. Applicants will be required to provide a Smart Card or ‘B’ Form to complete the registration process.

The Traffic Police also clarified that parental permission will be mandatory. No permit will be issued without written consent from parents or guardians.
Teenagers will also have to pass a traffic signs test and a road test before receiving the permit. Only successful candidates will be eligible to obtain the document.
Authorities said the permit issuance process will formally begin across Punjab during the current week.

DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir stressed that safety rules must be followed at all times. He said wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle or scooty will be compulsory.
He further added that indicators and side-view mirrors must be installed on two-wheelers. Riders will also be required to obey traffic signals, speed limits, and other road safety regulations.
Officials believe the new system will help young riders learn responsible driving habits while improving road safety across the province.
