10,000 e-bikes to be introduced under Punjab rental scheme
The Punjab government has decided to introduce an electric bike rental service, aiming to provide residents with an affordable, environmentally friendly, and modern mode of transportation. Under the first phase of the project, 10,000 electric bikes will be deployed across Lahore. To support the service, 300 docking and charging stations will be established at various locations throughout the city.
Officials said the initiative is designed to improve connectivity between residential areas, commercial centres, and public transport networks, making daily travel easier and more convenient for citizens.
The Punjab Housing Authority (PHA) will provide land for the docking and charging stations, while the project will be implemented with the support of the Lahore Parking Company (LePark), the Transport Department, Safe City, and other relevant institutions. Students, office workers, and the general public are expected to benefit from the service, which will offer a low-cost alternative for daily commuting.

According to officials, users will be able to rent electric bikes through a mobile application, allowing quick and easy access to the service whenever needed. Authorities believe the project will help reduce traffic congestion, lower transportation costs, and decrease fuel consumption across the city.
Officials also said the introduction of electric bikes could reduce carbon emissions in Lahore by thousands of tonnes each year, contributing to efforts to tackle air pollution and smog in the provincial capital.
The Secretary Housing said the government is introducing modern transport solutions to improve environmental conditions and encourage the use of cleaner energy alternatives. The e-bike rental service is part of Punjab’s broader strategy to modernize urban transport and promote sustainable mobility for future generations.
