ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Applicants under the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Programme have received major relief after commercial banks approved Apna Ghar housing loans worth Rs160,000,000,000, with loan disbursement already underway.

The government said the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Programme is helping low-income families own homes through affordable financing.

Officials believe the initiative will reduce Pakistan’s housing shortage while making home ownership easier for deserving citizens.

Speaking at the First International Insurance Conference in Karachi, Adviser to the Finance Minister Adnan Pasha said Pakistan currently faces a shortage of nearly 10 million homes.

He explained that the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Programme will play an important role in addressing this challenge.

He added that the approved Apna Ghar housing loans will provide thousands of families with an opportunity to purchase their own homes on easy terms.

Under the scheme, eligible applicants can receive housing finance at a subsidized markup rate of 5%.

The Ministry of Finance is also supporting participating banks by covering up to 10% of potential loan losses and providing markup subsidies for up to 10 years.

These measures are intended to make home financing more affordable and encourage banks to approve more Apna Ghar housing loans in the coming months.

Officials confirmed that successful applicants are already receiving their approved financing, while banks continue processing additional applications under the housing initiative.

During the conference, Adnan Pasha also highlighted other government projects. He said Pakistan plans to introduce 2 million electric motorcycles with subsidies and interest-free financing to reduce fuel consumption.

According to him, around 3 million registered motorcycles consume fuel worth nearly $8 billion every year.

He also announced a new digital agriculture financing programme launched in partnership with 21 banks, the Pakistan Banks Association and SUPARCO.

The programme will use satellite monitoring and real-time data to ensure agricultural loans are used properly and transparently.
