PM Youth Chromebook scheme: Marks, merit and regional quotas revealed
The programme aims to improve access to digital learning for students across the country.
The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and the Prime Minister’s Youth Program are running the initiative. The TT Care Foundation has agreed to supply the devices under a letter of understanding.
Who Can Apply for the Chromebook Scheme?
Under the Chromebook scheme eligibility rules, students must have scored at least 50% in their latest Secondary School Certificate Part-I (SSC-I) examinations.
The Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) will verify examination results. Authorities will then select students on merit within each province or region, examination board and academic stream.
Students at public schools, private schools supported by provincial education foundations and registered madaris can be considered. However, meeting the minimum marks requirement does not guarantee selection.
The free Chromebooks for students will be distributed after authorities verify academic records and confirm that applicants meet the scheme’s requirements.
How Many Devices Will Each Region Receive?
The government has announced the following regional allocations:
- Punjab: 181,090 Chromebooks
- Sindh: 85,925 Chromebooks
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 51,170 Chromebooks
- Balochistan: 31,815 Chromebooks
- Islamabad: 100,000 Chromebooks
- Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 25,000 Chromebooks
- Gilgit-Baltistan: 25,000 Chromebooks
Punjab has the largest allocation among the provinces, while Islamabad has been assigned 100,000 devices under the announced plan.
The PM Chromebook Scheme will distribute devices according to regional quotas, academic merit and the prescribed selection process.

School Students and Madaris to Get Separate Shares
According to the distribution plan, 80% of each region’s allocation will go to school students, while 20% will be reserved for students enrolled in registered madaris.
School students’ allocations will also depend on their academic streams. Science students will receive 70% of the school allocation, while arts students will receive 30%.
These divisions will guide how devices are distributed among eligible students in different education categories.
How Will Students Receive Their Chromebooks?
Authorities will verify students’ examination results, enrolment and school affiliation before sending devices by courier.
The programme will include a monitoring system to track deliveries. Grievance committees will also address complaints about selection, verification or devices that are not delivered.
Students should follow official announcements for application instructions and further details about the distribution process.
