Pakistan approves online Police Character Certificate system
The federal government has approved a nationwide online system for issuing Police Character Certificates, making the application process faster, easier and more convenient for citizens across Pakistan.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the National Police Bureau (NPB) in Islamabad. Under the new system, people will be able to apply for and receive Police Character Certificates through a centralized online portal without visiting government offices.
Officials say the digital platform is aimed at reducing paperwork, saving time and providing equal access to citizens regardless of where they live in the country.
The government believes the new online service will improve public convenience while increasing transparency and efficiency in the certificate issuance process.
Citizens can now apply from home
According to the Interior Ministry, the existing process for obtaining a Police Character Certificate often required applicants to visit multiple offices and complete lengthy paperwork.
With the introduction of the centralized digital system, citizens will be able to submit applications online, upload the required documents and receive their certificates through the same platform.
Officials say this digital transformation is part of the government's broader efforts to modernize public services and reduce unnecessary delays in administrative procedures.
The National Police Bureau will oversee the online portal and ensure that the system operates under a uniform nationwide mechanism.
Government plans uniform International Driving Permit system
During the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also directed officials to prepare a standardized nationwide system for issuing International Driving Permits.
At present, different provinces follow separate procedures for issuing international driving permits. The government now wants to introduce one uniform process that is simple, transparent and accessible for all citizens.
Officials believe the unified system will particularly benefit Pakistanis planning to travel, work or study abroad by making official documentation easier to obtain.
The minister said both the online Police Character Certificate system and the proposed International Driving Permit mechanism would simplify government services and improve the overall public experience.
National Police Bureau to play stronger role
Mohsin Naqvi said strengthening the National Police Bureau remains one of the government's priorities. He stressed that the institution should continue improving its performance by adopting modern technology and efficient administrative practices.
During his visit, the minister inspected the bureau's renovated building and received a detailed briefing from the Director General of the National Police Bureau about ongoing reforms, operational improvements and future development plans.
Officials also discussed measures to improve coordination among law enforcement agencies and enhance digital public services through technology-based solutions.
The government expects these reforms to increase public trust by making important services quicker, more transparent and easier to access.
Tribute paid to police martyrs
The meeting also paid tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives while performing their duties ahead of Police Martyrs' Day.
Mohsin Naqvi praised the courage and dedication of police officers who lost their lives while maintaining law and order and fighting crime across the country.
He said the sacrifices made by police martyrs would always be remembered and respected by the nation.
"Police martyrs are the pride of the nation. We can never fully repay their sacrifices. The entire nation and the government stand shoulder to shoulder with the families of our martyrs," the minister said.
Officials reiterated the government's commitment to supporting the families of fallen police officers and continuing efforts to strengthen law enforcement institutions.
