Web Desk: The KP government has announces free electric Scotties for students and working women to ease their every day travel.

Peshawar to get first phase

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a plan to provide free electric scooters to eligible women.

Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi directed officials to start work on the scheme and ensure that the required funds are available.

The first phase will cover eligible women in Peshawar. The government plans to expand the programme to other districts after the initial rollout.

The KP free electric scooters will be provided without cost to selected beneficiaries.

Women to be selected through balloting

Officials plan to use computerized balloting to select beneficiaries.

The system is intended to keep the process transparent and based on merit.

The chief minister has also ordered the formation of a steering committee, technical working group and grievance redressal committee.

These committees will oversee the programme, address technical matters and handle complaints from applicants.

The KP electric scooter scheme is therefore expected to have a formal monitoring system from the beginning.

Focus on easier travel

The government says the programme aims to make daily travel safer and easier for women.

The female students scooters initiative could help students travel to colleges and universities with greater independence.

Similarly, working women scooters could make it easier for employees to travel between their homes and workplaces.

Officials believe better access to personal transport could support women’s participation in education and employment.

Part of wider electric transport plan

The project is also linked to KP’s broader move towards environmentally friendly transport.

The provincial government has previously discussed electric mobility programmes for women and other groups.

Officials have also indicated plans for electric rickshaws and electric buses in divisional headquarters.

The government says electric vehicles can help reduce pollution and support a cleaner transport system.

The government has not yet announced the exact number of scooters to be distributed during the first phase.
